Offbeat Ways to Lose PCOS Weight

There’s no shortage of advice out there about the best ways to achieve Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) weight loss. You may have tried some of the simpler suggestions like skipping dressing on your salad, drinking more water to feel fuller and eating vegetable snacks to ward off hunger pangs. They certainly all help.

But many people resort to other and often quite unusual ways to lose PCOS weight. Some of them may work for you, so here’s a selection of tips:

Write some motivational messages to yourself and stick them to the door of your fridge and other surfaces around the kitchen. They’ll remind you of healthy food choices and how much better you’re going to feel and look from all your hard work at losing weight. Also use messages to focus on the fashionable styles that the new, slimmer you will be able to wear.

Brush your teeth when cravings strike. The refreshing minty taste has been known to fool a sweet tooth. Keep a small tooth brush and tube of toothpaste in your drawer at work.

Put recent weight loss photographs of yourself around the house alongside older pictures taken when you were heavier. Constantly being reminded of the difference between the two images may encourage you to keep up your efforts to lose more weight.

Try healthy new tastes to keep your PCOS diet interesting and varied. Don’t fall into the trap of convincing yourself that you don’t like the taste of something when you’ve never actually tried it. You might like raw spinach, for example. If you find you do, you can feel doubly virtuous because spinach makes an excellent diet snack and is extremely nutritious.

Imagine a certain food you sometimes crave, like a cheeseburger and portion of fries, super-glued to your hips, stomach or thighs. Tell yourself that’s where it’s going to end up after it has tickled your taste buds for a few seconds. Conjuring up that kind of image in your mind is good way to inspire you to seek healthier, less fattening fare.

Excess weight gain and obesity have created a major health crisis in the U.S. and throughout the world. An underlying cause of this epidemic is Insulin Resistance, an imbalance of glucose and insulin levels in the bloodstream, which, if not reversed by a nutritious diet and regular exercise, can lead to obesity and a number of other dangerous conditions. These include the cluster of cardiovascular disorders called Metabolic Syndrome or Syndrome X and the hormonal imbalance known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), a leading cause of female infertility as well as skin conditions and excess facial and body hair.
