Making PCOS Changes Through Preparation: Part One

Half the trick of finding the motivation to change your eating habits for the better and lose Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome weight is simple preparation.

Write your plans down and start by selecting a diet that suits you, personally. Not every plan works for every person. Steer clear of fad diets that come and go equally quickly. Don’t opt for programs that are either too low in calories (below 1200 a day) or eliminate entire food groups or are too expensive/strict to maintain. Guidance from your doctor or a nutritionist about what’s right for you is desirable.

Aim for balance. A good breakdown of diet constituents is 40% healthy carbs like whole grains, vegetables and certain fruit, plus 30% lean protein, like chicken and fish, and 30% healthy fats such as those provided by olive oil or nuts.

Don’t skip breakfast. Studies show that people who miss breakfast in the belief that PCOS weight loss will surely follow often end up consuming more calories later in the day. Try having unsweetened cereal with skim milk or an egg-white omelet with a slice of wholewheat toast. Or porridge, which is as good for you now as when your mother made you eat it as a child – as well as being nutritious, porridge will leave you feeling satisfied until lunchtime.

We’ll have more preparatory tips for you tomorrow. But in the meantime a balanced, nutritious diet combined with regular exercise can help reverse an underlying cause of excess weight and obesity, namely the imbalance of blood glucose and insulin called Insulin Resistance. By reversing this latter condition, you can facilitate PCOS weight loss.
