Combine the basil, lemon juice and mustard with a 1/4 cup of water in a blender, which should run on high speed until the contents are completely smooth. Add the oil in a steady stream and spin the mixture again for 20 seconds. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Try the vinaigrette alone on romaine lettuce or add to steamed green beans or kidney beans. To vary the taste, throw in fresh parsley leaves to the mix.
