Dear Robin: “I’ve been suffering from PCOS for 1 year now.. I’m 16 years old. Recently I noticed that I’m getting excessive hair growth on my face and breasts. Is this normal for my age and gender?” ~ Rebecca
Dear Rebecca: No, it’s not normal. I’m so glad you’re doing your research Rebecca.
Dark, terminal hairs are due to higher androgen levels that are metabolizing down a more potent androgenic pathway called the DHT or 5-alpha reductase pathway. This is caused by inflammation, potentially stemming from insulin resistance.
There are usually other symptoms that go along with this. What else are you noticing about your energy, moods, weight, etc?
Take a look at your diet, stress levels, sleep, etc. and see if you can give yourself more targeted self-care. Additionally, take a look at the tips above for Hollie and begin to implement these.

Zinc, saw palmetto, fiber, spearmint tea, fiber and many other nutrients can really help to reduce inflammation and balance hormones to stop the dark, course hair growth.
Keep me posted on your progress Rebecca, OK? ~ Robin
