As we’ve been saying this week, greater willpower and self-control can hugely improve the management of your PCOS symptoms for better health by enabling you to become disciplined enough to make the effort required to lose or control weight permanently.
By doing things that you usually do not like to do, you overcome your subconscious resistance, train your mind to obey you, strengthen your inner powers and gain inner strength. Just as muscles get stronger by resisting the power of the barbells, so inner strength is attained by overcoming inner resistance.
Here are a few exercises to start you off :
You are sitting in a bus or train and an old man or woman or someone pregnant walks in. Stand up and give up your seat, even if you prefer to stay seated. Not only is this the polite thing to do but it will boost your self-discipline because you are doing something that you are reluctant to do. This is an exercise in overcoming the resistance of your body, mind and feelings.
There are dishes in the sink that need washing, and you postpone washing them for later. Get up and wash them now. Do not let your laziness overcome you. When you know that this kind of attitude is developing your willpower, it will be easier for you to do whatever you have to do in other areas of your life, not just those connected with your health.
You come home tired from work and slump in front of the TV because you feel too lazy to take a shower first. Tell yourself to go and take a shower first and reward yourself with the TV afterwards.
You may know your body needs some physical exercise, but you keep on sitting in front of your computer. Instead, tell yourself you’ll feel better after activity and get up and do some physical exercise like walking.
