Amazing PCOS Health Benefits of Fenugreek
Today I want to talk about the amazing plant Fenugreek, but specifically it’s seed – called Fenugreek seeds because of their amazing health benefits for those of us with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome).
Fenugreek is one of the oldest cultivated medicinal plants and is a prized spice – native to Southern Europe and Asia – and is also considered a legume. Fenugreek is one of the chief ingredients in Indian curry and masala powders. It has light green leaves that looks a little like clover and produces long pods that contain 10-20 small, hard golden brown seeds.
This plant is so cool because it has so many uses for both the leaves and the seeds. And we like the health benefits of the seeds so much.
The fenugreek seed contains so many nutrients and health benefits. For instance, it’s rich in the minerals magnesium, selenium, copper, zinc, calcium, manganese, potassium and selenium, and contains vitamins A and C, thiamin, folic acid, riboflavin, pyridoxine (vitamin B6), and niacin.
The seeds also contain cool phytochemical compounds, Non-starch polysaccharides, and the amino acid 4-hydroxy isoleucine. Here’s what all of these goodies can help us with: they can calm PMS and symptoms of menopause, lower bad cholesterol, help with toxin removal so we feel better. They can be cancer protective, can help to lower blood sugar – that’s why they’re recommended in the diabetic diet – they can modulate insulin, improve digestion and regularity, and may increase breast milk production in nursing mothers (although high doses are not recommended for pregnant women)….
As you can see, Fenugreek seeds can be beneficial to women of any age from puberty to menopause. We have seen wonderful results over many years with helping women with all of these health concerns.
