Do You Suffer From “Auto-Pilot Eating?”

Let’s say you’re making all the right food choices to lose weight and better manage the symptoms of your PCOS. Yet you still weigh more than you’d like.

The explanation could be that you’re affected by “auto-pilot eating.”

When Cornell University researchers asked volunteers to estimate the number of eating decisions they make every day, most said 15. In fact, they really made many more decisions about what to eat, as well as how, when, where and with whom they’d eat.

“Auto-pilot eating,” which can include barely registering a small snack you consumed while chatting to a friend or business colleague, may be padding your diet with hundreds of undocumented calories every day.

Getting a grip could close hidden diet loopholes so that you can reach your healthy-weight goals by cutting out unwanted fat and sugar.

Tomorrow we’ll focus on how to identify some of those “auto-pilot” moments.
