An Apple a Day Really Can Help Keep Bad Things Away

Apples are one of the best items of all to include in a healthy diet because so many benefits kick in from the first bite. This is especially true for those of us with PCOS who are vulnerable to other disorders if we neglect our symptoms.

For a start, apples have a lot of fiber (two-thirds of which is in the peel) as well as some potassium and moderate amounts of vitamin C.

Then there’s the high concentration of anti-oxidants – nutrients that guard cells against damage from oxidation, which, in turn, can lead to a variety of serious disorders. These rang from heart-damaging, PCOS-linked diabetes and metabolic syndrome to Alzheimer’s Disease and several forms of cancer.

An apple a day is also a terrific source of flavanoids, such as quercetin (also in the peel), which protects nerve cells from oxidation stress.
